Biography

Ruby Reding is an artist from the UK based in Rotterdam. She works with sculpture, poetry, and moving image to feel out human beings’ disconnection from resource supply chains, infrastructure sites, and each other. In her work, which draws on the elemental and the rhythmic, she attunes differently to our experiences of agency, proximity, and metabolism under late capitalism. She instigates research fieldwork to sites of environmental violence and conservation, such as water engineering sites, weather towers, mines, and factories. She collects scrap materials and visits archives, asking how these methodologies can offer slanted knowledges and forms of material intimacy. She is interested in bridging gaps between scenes of extraction and the logistical spaces that carry those geologies into market commodities and precious objects.
