Catherine Desjardins is Wolastokewisqehs and Québécoise from the Wolastoqiyikcommunity of Wahsipekuk (Québec). She is an emerging visual artist who explores mostly illustration, beadwork, and embroidery. The beauty of the land, her relationship with it, and the cycles of life are what inspires her the most. She is also a singer-songwriter; on her first EP, Kahtolin, released in December 2023, she unveils her sensitivity and her deep connection with emotions and the cycle of seasons. She is also committed to language revitalization. She now resides in Eqpahak (Fredericton area, NB) to continue her language journey, following her graduation from the intensive Wolastoqey language program at St. Thomas University in Sitansik (St. Mary’s First Nation), Wetapeksoltiyəkw. Through music and other media, she is finally reviving her artistic spirit, which she had long put aside, and reconnecting with Wolastoqiyik, Skicinuwey, and Wolastoqey latuwewakon. She hopes to continue learning and spreading her love for Wolastoqey latuwewakon, to inspire other Wolastoqiyik to learn it and create with it.
