Catalogue to accompany Balfour’s solo exhibition comprised of seven works produced between 1992 and 1998. Scott’s interpretive text focuses on the “Melancholia & Melanomata” (1994-96) installation. Emphasis is placed on how this piece – incorporating approximately 90 lithographic images of moles and freckles found on the artist’s skin – engages the discourses of printmaking, sculpture, portraiture, feminist aesthetics and minimalism. Issues of abstraction, representation and the figurative are considered in relation to concepts of the body, melanoma and melancholia. Includes excerpts from statements by Balfour and a glossary of lithographic terms. List of works. Biographical notes. 26 bibl. ref.
