The identity of a culture, a country or people is often derived from the way these people have been dealing with their specific landscape. Markus shows us a confrontation between nature and culture by staging almost stigmatized elements of both. In the Cultureland residency he chooses the Stijl as the archetypical cultural expression. He constructs an icon of this famous art movement and confronts it with its own origin, the man-made landscape. The results are shown in an interdisciplinary presentation of video, photography and objects.
