Artist and author

Yasufumi Takahashi

During our animated conversations, questions and thoughts bubble up to match our curiosity. The interest is mutual, and in the triangle formed by our voices, Yasufumi’s creates a bridge between us and Japan. Japanese nature, Japanese culture, Japanese religion, Japanese art: calmly and patiently, Yasufumi delivers pieces of the mosaic to us. Beyond the values, beliefs, and traditions that distinguish us, fascination grows, fed not only by exoticism but, especially, by common sensibilities. We discern Yasufumi’s sensibilities in the development of his thought, in his critical gaze, and in his relationship with nature, which inspires his approach. Then, there’s the visit to Tokyo: Tokyo, an anthill with intersections crawling with people coming and going; Tokyo, a multicoloured bulletin board of neon and electronic signs; Tokyo, an octopus of superimposed motorways.
