This catalogue documents an exhibition dedicated to the sense of play in contemporary art, which was organised for the event “France au Québec/La saison”. Curator Fraser analyses the 19 pieces produced by as many artists – individuals and collectives – according to the following categories : everyday life, popular culture and entertainment, the tragic, the game of love, childhood and the world of fiction, and play and subversion. The author frames “play” in terms of art practice and contemporary society, and examines its relationship to reality. Lageira examines the theme from philosophical, aesthetic and historical perspectives.
