This book, edited by Dominique Allard and Véronique Leblanc, was published by Est-Nord-Est, résidence d’artistes. It accompanied the residency event Fabriquer l’improbable, produced in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli in summer 2013. The artists and curators were in research and production residencies for periods of one to two months between July 8 and August 30, 2013. The event took place from August 30 to September 1, 2013.

Fabriquer l’improbable (To Make the Improbable) was a working hypothesis based on the observation of contemporary art practices that, with an economy of means and expertise, are capable of generating random ways of seeing the world.

This hypothesis also responded to the desire to open a space of experimentation based on collaboration. The authors’ texts foregrounded and pooled the ideas that permeated their “laboratory” project, starting from the artists’ work, and documented the experience of the residency, which consisted, above all, of a space for reflection and for research, encounter, exchange, and sharing of knowledge.
