nos suppressions

The publication nos suppressions brings to a close a project developed by Céline Huyghebaert since 2016. In it, she sketches the story of her friendship with a fictional artist—a narrative shaped by voices, images, and documents gathered during residencies in documentation centers—at La Chambre blanche in 2016 and at Artexte in 2018 and 2019—as well as through an extended correspondence with 51 Quebec women artists. nos suppressions invents a hybrid, visual and textual form to recount what ordinarily disappears without a trace. How can one reveal the gaps, omissions, and voluntary or involuntary absences present in artists’ files? Which erasures is History responsible for—and what withdrawals do we ourselves enact within our own narratives? What do we choose to leave unsaid? What do we prevent from coming into being? The author explores these questions by proposing doubt and vulnerability as forms of resistance.
