Cécilia Bracmort, our guest curator of the S27 residency!

It is with great pleasure that we introduce our guest curator, Cécilia Bracmort, with whom we are fortunate to be collaborating on the summer 2027 residency, Corps céleste, corps terrestre. 

Cécilia Bracmort is a Montréal-based Franco-Canadian artist and curator. Her Caribbean heritage (Martinican and Guadeloupean) influences both her art and her curatorial practice, which are focused on the notions of identity – individual or collective – memory, and history. In her practice Cécilia considers herself an art-listener and [art] matchmaker. Her projects are made to connect worlds, social environments, and concepts that don’t usually mix. She seeks to form bridges between the disparate themes that she connects with, such as sport, ecology, trauma, and mythology.

Through her work, Cécilia aims to open doors to make new ideas and identities visible, to encourage people to think outside the “white box,” and to invite them to see the world under a new and different lens.

 

This residency will explore the concept of osmosis, considered as a process of gradual transformation through which beings, materials, and environments influence one another. Rooted in the curator’s reflections on the black experience, the residency seeks to question and shift representations of the black body beyond its strictly physical and social dimensions, particularly when it is reduced to a utilitarian function.

Open to the visual arts, dance, music, poetry, science, and interdisciplinary practices, this residency gives priority to artists of African descent, while welcoming anyone whose practice resonates with the themes explored.
