Registrations – Interstice: Ramifications

For the second edition of the Interstice seminar, we are pleased to collaborate with artist Eve Tagny (Tiohtià:ke / Mooniyang / Montreal), who will serve as a mentor. Under the theme Ramifications, the seminar will take place from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Est-Nord-Est.

Drawing from her multidisciplinary artistic practice—where the body and its gestures hold a central place—Eve Tagny explores spiritual and embodied expressions of resilience, in resonance with the cycles and materiality of nature. From this perspective, the artist will lead activities and discussions to spark reflection on the fragmentation and privatization of land, colonial relationships to the environment and labor, and the processes of natural resource extraction.

The artist and participants will also have the opportunity to meet local collaborators to further enrich the conversation.

Eve Tagny is a Tiohtià:ke/Montreal-based artist. Her practice considers gardens and disrupted landscapes as mutable sites of personal and collective memory — inscribed in dynamics of power, colonial histories and their legacies. Weaving lens-based mediums, installation, text and performance, she explores spiritual and embodied expressions of grief and resiliency, in correlation with nature’s rhythms, cycles and materiality.

Elisabeth Cardin studied horticulture, ecology, and herbalism before becoming a restaurateur (Manitoba restaurant in Montréal, 2014–22). Her background inspired her to write her first two books on local food systems and the history of Québec cuisine: Le temps des récoltes (Atelier 10) and L’érable et la perdrix (Cardinal). She is also the author and narrator of the podcast Manger le territoire (Télé-Québec) and, more recently, of the essay La mémoire des matériaux (Leméac), in which she explores collective memory through natural and durable objects. Also a poet and an illustrator, she co-authored and illustrated the poetry collection Peuplement forestier, published in May 2026 by NaturAT.

Catherine Bélanger and Dave Bernard met at a course on organic market gardening at the Cégep de Victoriaville, and they shared the dream of a lifestyle in harmony with nature. They moved to a fallow small farm in Saint-Aubert, which, in 2008, officially became La Ferme des Pensées Sauvages. After years of expansion, production today is refocusing on summer and fall vegetables complemented by a growing orchard and a wide variety of floral, medicinal, and artisanal plants. It’s a lively, nourishing, welcoming place!

A 2006 graduate of the Métiers d’art – Verre program, Julien Mongeau and his spouse,Amélie Lucier, founded A & J Métissage in 2007, offering a collection of utilitarian objects made of blown glass and ceramics. When they moved to the Kamouraska region in 2021, it marked a turning point in their relationship with the land and its resources, and soon after Julien became interested in the possibilities offered by the presence of clay in the region’s soil. He learned how to work with these wild clays and now assists ceramicists and artists who want to learn more about using them.

Descriptions of the activities

Cooking workshop with Elisabeth Cardin

ENE’s kitchen will be transformed into a workshop and gathering space during the preparation of a collective meal with Elisabeth Cardin. This workshop invites the group to reflect on our relationship with the food-producing territory by weaving together poetry, memory, and local ingredients. The interplay between words and flavors will serve as a foundation for opening a dialogue about the contemporary disconnection between humans and the ecosystems that sustain them. Participants will be invited to consider food as a medium for research and the kitchen as a space for creation.

Agricultural immersion at La Ferme des Pensées Sauvages

Catherine Bélanger and Dave Bernard will welcome the group to their farm, where they will share their passion for organic gardening and the living ecosystem they have been working with and learning from since 2008—a practice rooted in co-creation with the surrounding nature. By taking part in a collective farm chore, group members will engage their bodies in shared physical labor. This experience will open a dialogue on ecological farming methods, seasonality, and the tangible connection between labor, land, and sustenance.

Workshop on local clay with Julien Mongeau

Julien Mongeau will lead the group to the shoreline for an introduction to gathering and processing local wild clays. Participants will become familiar with the stages involved in preparing this material and will explore its potential through hands-on experimentation and the creation of a collective, ephemeral work. The workshop will also address the ethical and ecological issues related to the extraction of natural materials and their integration into an artistic practice.
